Buzz about a possible Fifty West expansion had been brewing for a while. It was hard to stop the chatter when Fifty West has been searching for the next step for over two years, according to BobblySlattery and Blake Horsburgh.

It`s probably been two years that we`ve been working on this and we looked at a lot of places in Cincinnati but eventually we said, you know, this is home, said Slattery.

Navigating expansion is always a big step for a brewery but for Fifty West it was about growing their business two-fold: increase production and expand the brand. If you haven`t seen or heard about the plans, Fifty West announced last week that it is taking over theHahana Beach facility, turning it into a production facility as well as a taproom. Along with the expansion comes Fifty West Cycling which will be located next to Pizellii`s Pizza just down the road. The goal is to create a space that brings people together doing the things that they love.

You`re adding that extra level to their life, said Slattery. I think there`s always been that [outdoorsy] vibe running through this place and this gives us the ability to really capture it I always use Ben Jerry`s as an example. If we were to pick what we were,we want to be like the Ben Jerry`s of the beer world.

As previously mentioned, the expansion had been a long time coming for the brewery. Both Slattery and Horsburghexplained that not being able to meet the demand for their beer was beginning to riskbusiness relations.

The goal was to make more beer said brewmaster Blake Horsburgh. but we have a strong feeling and opinion that beer is communal and so it`s more than just the liquid, it`s an experience.

But with this experience comes an addition of 4-5,000 barrels in the first year alone. Fifty West will continue to use the brewpub as an incubator of types, acting as the pilot system. The brewery is mostly focused on increasing production of their current flagship beers and getting it out on draft to the community. As far as a packaging the beer, you can expect to see a slight increase in local, specialty bottle shops but they won`t be lining the shelves of your favorite grocery store any time soon.Horsburgh said they plan on packaging about 500 barrels of the 4-5,000 that will come out of the production facility in the first year. That number may increase in years to follow.

We`re definitely planning on packaging our product but we want the experience to be special and the beer to be special so we`re not just going to go out and pump it out in volume said Horsburgh.

As the transition takes place, the brewpub will continue to function as it has been since 2012, with added focus on the menu.Slattery said to expect more culinary features at the brewpub including beer dinners.

When we opened this space, it was all about pairing beer and food and we`re going to continue to do that said Slattery.

The taproom will not include food service but catering from the brewpub will be available for events and large groups. The new space will be event heavy, both men explained. They hope to introduce a number of fitness-oriented events including and going beyond volleyball leagues ran by Fifty West.

Our goal is to get you to come in and try these different beers and maybe get involved in a running group or a biking group said Slattery.

The brewery predicts bringing on about 30 new employees overall including about 4-5 new brewers, including packaging, according to Horsburgh.

Fifty West is set to take over the Hahana Beach facility as of November 1 to start flipping the space. The taproom will be inspired by 1970`s vibe, including rustic orange decor. If you`ve seen the Fifty West bus hanging outside the brewpub just imagine thatbut like everywhere.

The new space is projected to open sometime in early 2016.

We`re going to throw the most epic St. Patrick`s Day party ever said Slattery.

well April Fools, maybe said Horsburgh as all three of us let out a nervous laugh. Let`s just leave it at early 2016 for now.
